I know, I know, I've been absolutely AWFUL about posting. Beyond awful. But rather than getting bogged down in that and feeling guilty, I'm just going to post right now... because I want to, and because maybe then I'll start to feel like, "Hey, I could post that!" and be better about writing here!

(c) 2014 Ms. Huis Herself at musenmutter.blogspot.com
Quite a while back, on some parenting website or another, I saw a post about a family manifesto. They had a (pretty, various fonts, color-coordinated) poster of their family rules/important saying/way of living. I thought it was kinda cool, but way too much work!
But as time went on, I realized there were a few thingsMs. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-63080871347904267232013-11-01T16:36:00.001-06:002013-11-01T16:38:05.674-06:00Halloween 2013

Happy Halloween, everybody! Well, happy day-after-Halloween anyway. I'm so excited to share the girls' costumes with you this year! They had very interesting ideas, and I think their looks turned out great! Without further ado, here you go!

As you probably know, I've been doing this 5K running thing for a few years now - 4 to be precise. I ran in one my first year, 2 my second, 3 my third, and now I've completed 4 in my 4th year as a runner! The only one I've done every year is our town's invariable HOT one in July, but I've now completed the Y's Freaky 5K for Ms. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-48902200773987006092013-09-29T20:39:00.002-05:002013-09-29T20:39:33.892-05:00Car Talk, WI Dells to Home edition

We were enjoying [maybe not the right word!] a long [extra half-hour due to stop-and-go traffic on I-94 for at least 18 miles] drive home from a wonderful weekend at Wisconsin Dells we'd enjoyed [right word!] with most of my side of the family. Here are a few snippets of our conversations.

We had our first non-camping, non-relative-visiting family vacation in August... and guess where we went!
That's right - Chicago, IL!
Sure, it was less than 4 hours away, and it's very much still a Midwestern USA city, but it was someplace we'd never been (other than my wonderful 40th birthday fun bash), we were away from home, Ms. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-7002883567426658802013-08-23T08:01:00.000-05:002013-08-23T08:01:21.851-05:009 is big stuff!

It's hot. In fact, it's DARN hot, especially for this northern US clime! We've had a stretch of around 90F days, with not much cooling down at night, which is rather uncomfortable! Luckily for us human types, we can escape to the magical land of Air Conditioning! (c) 2013 Ms. Huis Herself at musenmutter.blogspot.com
I did my first 5K of this year this morning, and it was a color run! As in, while you're running along the course, occasionally you run a gauntlet of people throwing colored paint powder on you!
It was fun for something different, and a fun way to get my first 5K of the year done. It's been raining lots lately, Ms. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-43950723978053937452013-05-18T20:03:00.003-05:002013-05-18T20:34:55.996-05:00I'll name you Beatrice, you're Beulah, and you can be Bea... We've been thinking about doing this for a while and Mr. Kluges finally talked me into it last September. We ordered our equipment, put it together, and today, picked up the final and most necessary component to our new endeavor...

Not that I mean to only write when we've had something bad occur with the house, but this happened...
About 10 days ago, while Mr. Kluges was in Ireland on a business trip, Mother Nature decided that what this extended late winter, is-spring-ever-coming season needed was an ice storm. A BIG ice storm spiced up with just a Ms. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-67232652939563954532013-03-16T13:01:00.000-06:002013-03-16T13:08:19.349-06:00Not the Way we Planned to Spend our Saturday
(c) 2013 Ms. Huis Herself at musenmutter.blogspot.com
I went for a run this morning. Not that unusual - my schedule is to run on Friday evening, but if I don't feel like it, I'll often go on Saturday morning instead. At some point during my treadmill run, I hear Mr. Kluges come down to the basement, rummage around in his work room, and go back upstairs.
When I'm done running, IMs. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-42364127430000290562013-02-24T21:04:00.000-06:002013-02-24T21:04:47.560-06:00Kids and Money Skills, Part 1

Kids need to learn about money. Just like they need to learn about cooking, cooperation, planning out long tasks, cleaning up after themselves, being a good friend, doing laundry, and all those other life skills. I've been doing some thinking about kids and money skills, and how Mr. Kluges and I can help our girls learn about Ms. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32175382.post-51204583446128786272013-02-16T20:51:00.003-06:002013-02-16T20:51:44.757-06:00Happy Valentine's Day!

Ok, so it might be a bit belated, but Thursdays are always crazy for us because it's the day I volunteer the entire morning in the girls' classrooms (alternatively). Hurriedly finish up brunch-making on Sunday after church, I brought an egg-in-a-basket to the dining room, to plop it on a plate, when this view out the window caught my eye.
Hi! I see you have peanut butter toast crusts out here. I'm sure the birds won't mind sharing!

Today was "Rainbow Day" at school & the kids were encouraged to wear rainbows, tie-dyed stuff, and bright colors in general. Nice and cheery for the middle of winter, don't you think?
We kinda got into it....

Last year I decided that the amount of frostiness of the sides of the

defrost it. So I figured I'd wait until we had a couple-days-to-a-week

Back in October, Mr. Kluges had been back home to Minnesota and saw his folks. Grandma Yori sent back a cute kit to make a haunted house cake for Halloween. Fun, Ms. Huis Herselfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10965333243525156916noreply@blogger.com0
