Spring Beauties

(c) 2008 Ms. Huis Herself at musenmutter.blogspot.com

You know those sprouts up in my header? The ones just peeking out of the cold mud?

Have I mentioned that they've turned into the most incredible flowers that blanket a fair amount of our backyard?

And have I bragged lately just how gorgeous my girls are?

Beautiful! (The glory-of-the-snow and the girls!)

Those are lovely! (yes, both the girls and the flowers) It looks like a mountain valley or something.

Wow! those flowers are amazing. What are they? How can I get me some? (cute kids too, but it was the day to think about landscaping...)

Wow! That's beautiful! (The flowers AND the girls, I mean, but what a ground cover to have!)

Veggie: I'm pretty sure they're Glory-of-the-Snow (Chionodaxa). They're a bulb, they will grow in our zone, and as you can see, if left alone they will spread like the dickens.

Actually, they point down, not up, so they're probably not Glory-of-the-Snow. Based on our internet research, we think they're
Siberian squill.

Not that you can get enough detail to tell from the pic, but that's our best guess.

I'm wrong again! *laughs* I'm getting lots of practice lately. Regardless, these pictures make me want to plant a bunch of Glory-of-the-Snow OR Siberian squill, because wow for pretty!

p.s. Please tell me that you dressed them for this photo op and that they aren't always this pastorally perfect in pink and white. Because as much as I know you're totally The SuperMom, it would reassure me to know that...

*grin* Like I'd expect you to be able to accurately tell the flowers based on just those pix when we've spent hours trying to figure them out on-line ourselves?!

Also, no, this was a "dress 'em in their Easter dresses for church 'cuz it's SUCH a beautiful day" combined with (when we got home), "Hey, I should TOTALLY get their pictures in those gorgeous flowers since they're all wearing their Easter dresses and looking so pretty." And TNGreatAunt should get the credit for the gorgeous Easter dresses!

(But I do dress them a bit matchy sometimes... *grin*)

(Also, The SuperMom?! Ha!, but thanks for the flattery!)

WOW! What fantastic pictures. (both girls and flowers) I'd love to have some of those flowers myself. I love self spreading beauties like those. Sharing plants with friends and neighbors is such a gratifying experience. I like matchy, so I'd completely do the same thing!

I've had trouble identifying some... um, plants? Well, really snow mold but my friends on blotanical were great at helping me get some good information!

great catalog and source of Scilla
is Mcclure and Zimmerman (get their catalog, lots of stuff and they have a spring and fall one)
on line www.mzbulb.com
and they are out of Friesland,WI
I order from them, great, I have daffodils of course (this is TN) and grape hyacinths-not as overpowering smellwise as regular) and think the squills would be fun, and in catalog can get an assortment 0f 72 bulbs for 29.95
also great to plant in pots
