Nah-sah?

I think it's adorable when little kids get words almost right, but not quite. You know, like when they say pasghetti for spaghetti or hangurbur for hamburger. Just cute!

Well, when it's raining, Pumpkin tells me people need to use an "umbrumbra."

She loves "bannas." (This one is odd since most kids will call them nanas, especially since the "buh" in banana is pretty soft, but not our girl.)

But my very favorite mispronunciation is an animal. Granted, it is a long word, and like banna, she gets part of it, but she just doesn't shorten it the way most of us would. It had us puzzled for a bit, so I want to see what y'all come up with for this one. Any guesses as to what a "nah-sah" is?

(And hopefully the fun of an interactive post will make you forget that I was a slacker and skipped a couple of days of blogging! *grin*)

I'm going to guess "Backpack". Just to get that song from Dora stuck in my head.

OK, not an animal -- I didn't catch that part. But, you know what, I'm going to stick with "Backpack", just on principle. Made my bed, gonna sleep in it. Instructions, schminstructions.

My guess is Rhinosaurus.
(I may or may not have had to look up that spelling, I've only had one cup of coffee...)

I'm with All-Knowing. I'm really curious where Temp gets "backpack" from "nah-sah", but then, Temp has dealt with a lot more kids than I have and seems to have a much better grasp of their weird little brains, so I'll just go with it.

(Though I was really amused by the grand-nephew when he kept telling me stories that started with "One time, when I was your age...")

The key is the vowels -- in my experience they get the vowels first. Which is why Rhino is also a good call, because it's got that vowel pattern in it.

Summer, bless her, thinks I'm _much_ younger than her Mama and Papa, but not still a kid -- she puts me at about 6. Or maybe a 5 year old who's lived hard.

I'm going to guess dinosaur.

Since we didn't get any clues as to what on earth you're feeding this child now (Camembert?), I'm going with Ang and dinosaur.

Quatloos and cheerios to AllKnowingJen and Pusher! In Pumpkin's world, a nah-sah is a rhinocerous. (Which, AKJ, ummm... is the way MY dictionary spells the beast... I had to look it up then 'cuz I wasn't sure after seeing yours. Mmmm, more coffee!)

But points to Syl and Ang for dinosaur, 'cuz it's got the same sounds in the middle, too.

Kashka, you get points for the most interesting entry... as well as for sticking to your guns! :)

Thanks for playing!!! That was fun!
